Menzerna PO83 Super Intensive
Polish (PO85RD3.02)
Menzerna's
PO91E Intensive Polish was
designed to remove 2000 grit sanding traces, swirls and paint defects in
conventional clear coats. In 2005, Mercedes Benz, Rolls Royce and a
few other manufacturers switched to a super-hard, nano-particle, ceramic,
scratch-resistant clear coat. This clear coat could not be polished using
conventional polishes. For removing very fine swirls, spots and defects (2500
grit) in this new scratch-resistant clear coat, Menzerna introduced PO106FF
Ceramic Clear Coat Polish. Menzerna PO106FF is used in Mercedes Benz assembly
plants in both Germany and the U.S. for removing fine defects and for final
polishing of all Mercedes models.
While this new clear coat is
scratch-resistant, it is not scratch-proof. It can still be scratched. As
vehicles entered the real world, some vehicles would show up at dealers with
scratches and spots that PO106FF could not fully remove. A more aggressive
polish was needed. Menzerna, working with Mercedes Benz, Germany, developed a
polish called PO85RD3.02 to remove deeper paint defects in scratch-resistant
clear coats. Menzerna USA, to avoid confusion with older polishes that carried
the PO85 prefix, changed the stock number to PO83 and gave it the unofficial
name of Super Intensive Polish.
PO83 became an instant success with
body shops and detailers as the first of a one-two punch that started with PO83
to remove defects and finished with PO106FF to restore surface gloss.
Professional paint technicians were so impressed with PO83's superior cutting
power that they began to use it on conventional clear coats as well. It cuts
faster and leaves less compounding haze than PO91E Intensive Polish but it costs
more also.
Application by Machine:
PO83 works great with the Orange Power
Pad using either a circular, D-A or orbital polisher. Menzerna gives an rpm
range of 1200 to 1800 rpm. I prefer to stick with the lower range (1200-1300
rpm) if using a circular machine. With the Porter Cable 7424, I set the speed
dial between 4-1/2 and 5. Mist the pad first with a pad lubricant and work in an
up-and-down and back-and-forth motion until the polish starts to dry. Wipe off
residues with a damp Microfiber cloth. On dark color paints, follow with PO106FF
for highest gloss.
Super
Intensive Polish is VOC compliant in all 50 states.
