Menzerna Show Car Clay & Polish Kits
  The secret to a show-car
shine!
I apologize for endlessly
repeating my mantra on proper surface preparation but most people still haven't
gotten the message. I'm constantly asked, "Which wax gives the best
shine?" My reply is always, "Shine is 90% surface preparation and 10%
the final wax or sealant used." The most expensive wax in the world won't
do much on dull, oxidized paint. conversely, the cheapest wax you can buy will
look fantastic on a properly prepared and polished vehicle.
Proper surface preparation
takes a little time but isn't that hard. If you own a dual-action or circular
machine polisher, it's actually pretty easy. Here are the steps to a perfect
shine:
- Clay the
paint to remove bonded paint contamination.
- Compound
to remove swirls, scratches and oxidation.
- Polish to
maximize surface gloss.
- Protect
and enhance the shine by finishing with your favorite wax or sealant.
If you're a car fanatic and
want to create a heart-stopping, head-turning shine on your car, we've got the
solution. It starts with this Menzerna Show Car Polish Kit. This kit features
our best polishes, from Menzerna of Germany. These are the same polishes used by
German automakers and are now being used by selective GM and Chrysler plants.
Menzerna polishes are considered by many body shop professionals to be the
finest polishes available in the world today.

| Here's the procedure for hand application.
Instructions for machine application using either a dual-action polisher or
circular polisher are included in the kit.
|
Test for paint contamination:
|
|
After washing and drying your vehicle, put your hand inside a plastic
sandwich bag and lightly run your fingertips over the paint's surface.
It should be as smooth as glass. If your car's surface has a
rough, gritty or pebble-like texture, it indicates the presence of paint
contamination. This should be removed with a clay bar before applying a
compound, polish or wax. |

|
|
Removing Paint
Contamination:
There is no wax, natural or synthetic, or any
chemical treatment that can prevent or protect against this
contamination. The best solution, a special clay bar, was
developed in Japan nearly ten years ago. This clay safely removes rail
dust and industrial fallout by "pulling" it off the surface.
It does not "cut" or perform any abrasive action normally
associated with polishing or compounding.
|
The latest evolution in clay technology is BLACKFIRE
PolyClay. These clay-like bars are made in the U.S.A. of
entirely man made polymers. These bars perform all the functions of
traditional clay bars but will not dry out with age or decompose with
repeated applications.
Poly Clay also leaves
less residue on the surface making clean-up
easier.
|
|
Step One, Clay the Surface.
Clay bars should always be used on freshly
washed, clean surfaces. Dirt on the surface could cause scratches. |
Always use a
lubricant such as BLACKFIRE
Clay Lubricant with the clay bar.
Work on areas about three square feet. Lightly
mist the surface with the lubricant. Place the clay bar in the palm of
your hand and rub it across the lubricated area using moderate pressure.
(Hard rubbing is not required) You should feel a slight grabbing at
first. As you rub, the bar should glide smoothly over the surface. When
the bar moves freely, you are done. Wipe the surface with a clean dry
towel and continue in sections until the entire vehicle is complete. |

|
 |
 |
|
Mist surface with
lubricant,
rub clay across surface.
|
Wipe off any
residues
with a Microfiber towel.
|
As the bar becomes soiled, simply pull, stretch and
refold to expose a new, clean side. When the bar becomes totally soiled
(dark colored) discard it. An 8 oz. bar should clean at least 16 to 20
cars. Do not use a bar dropped on the ground. |
After claying, the surface should be as smooth
as glass. Remove any remaining smudges with a clean Microfiber towel. Mist the surface with the lubricant if necessary to make the
final wipe down easy. Repeat the above process until the entire car has
been clayed.
Tech Note: Clay bars will
not remove scratches, swirls, or dull, oxidized paint. This is accomplished
in Step Two, Compounding.
|
Step Two, Compound the
Surface.
Compounding
removes swirls, minor scratches, oxidation and blemishes. Compounding is
best accomplished using a dual-action or circular machine polisher but can
be done by hand.
|
If applying by hand, squeeze a quarter-size amount of
Menzerna Intensive Polish on a damp Power Scrubber Microfiber Applicator
Pad. Work
on an area of 2 to 3 square feet. Using a circular or back-and-forth motion,
wipe Intensive Polish over the area with a firm pressure until almost dry. Wipe off
polishing residues with a damp Terry or Microfiber cloth.
Continue polishing in
2 to 3 square foot sections until the entire panel or vehicle is done. |

amount of
Intensive Polish to damp applicator pad. |

Wipe on until almost
dry. |
Buff off residues with
a
damp Microfiber cloth. |
|
Step Three, Polishing
the Surface.
Polishing
restores surface gloss after compounding (or anytime) and creates a
bright, mirror-like finish. Polishing
is best accomplished using a dual-action or circular machine polisher but
can be done by hand.
|
If applying by hand, squeeze a quarter-size amount of
Menzerna Final Polish II on a damp Power Scrubber Microfiber Applicator
Pad. Work
on an area of 2 to 3 square feet. Using a circular or back-and-forth motion,
wipe Final Polish II over the area with a firm pressure until almost dry. Wipe off
polishing residues with a damp Terry or Microfiber cloth.
Continue polishing in
2 to 3 square foot sections until the entire panel or vehicle is done. |

a
damp Microfiber cloth. |
|
Step Four, Finishing.
Finish
by sealing the surface with your favorite wax or paint sealant (not
included in this kit).
I've obtained spectacular results
finishing with Menzerna
FMJ. This combination produces a
mile-deep gloss on my dark green Audi. |

|
|
Finish with a great
sealant
like Menzerna's FMJ.
(Not included in kit) |
Note:
We offer this kit in two versions. If your car is over 2 to 3 years old
and/or has some swirls, scratches or oxidation on the surface, we
recommend the MEN-KIT listed above. This kit includes Intensive polish for
removing the swirls, scratches and oxidation.
The MEN-KIT is an $89.70 value if
purchased separately.
If you're preparing a
newer car without any swirls or scratches, you can skip the Second Step,
Compounding. After claying the finish, go directly to polishing with Final
Polish. This allows you to save some money by selecting our Show Car
Polish Kit for New Cars, stock no. MEN-NEW.
This is the exact same kit minus the 16 oz. bottle of Intensive Polish,
one applicator pad and one Microfiber wipe cloth.
The MEN-NEW Kit is a $66.75 value if
purchased separately.
Customer Comments:
I've owned a 1999, black, Porsche
Boxster for about a year and a half now and it has unfortunately NOT been
garage kept or covered since I bought it. I recently found the time to use
your Menzerna Show Car Polish Kit and, I must say, I AM AMAZED! I'll
admit, at first, I was a bit hesitant to rub a bar of clay all over my
semi-beautiful paint but once I got started I simply couldn't believe my
eyes. I was calling it a success after having only completed the claying!
I finished the polishing and sealing this weekend and not have a SEVERE
case of "perma-grin". My once semi-beautiful paint is not
completely beautiful again! Thank you."
