Lake Country CCS, 6.5" Hi-Gloss, Foam Pads
Lake Country Hi-Gloss, 6-1/2 inch, CCS Pads for
conventional and scratch-resistant clear coats.
European and domestic
automakers are in the process of changing over to super-hard, scratch-resistant, clear
coats. DuPont has recently released it's SupraShield™ scratch resistant clear
coat and PPG has followed with their Optech™ and CeramiClear™ clear coats. In 2005, Mercedes Benz switched to
a nano, ceramic clear coat. This is on all cars with a paint code that starts
with "C". Volvo has started using a scratch resistant clear on their
top models in 2006 and hopes to have all models switched by the end of 2006.
These new, harder, clear coats
are scratch resistant, not scratch proof. The problem is, when scratched,
conventional pads and polishes may not have the power to remove the defect.
Several manufacturers, Menzerna of Germany and a joint-venture with BLACKFIRE in
the U.S. have brought new polishes and compounds to market designed to remove
swirls, spots and scratches in these harder clear coats. That left one area
still in need of improvement - the foam pads.
Lake Country Manufacturing,
one of the world's largest manufacturer of foam polishing pads, has spent the last two
years working with automakers in Europe, Canada, the U.S. and Mexico and with
polish suppliers (specifically Menzerna of Germany) to develop a new generation
of foam polishing pads. The result is a patented technology they call CCS, Collapsed
Cell Structures. This technology, which puts a pattern of
collapsed "dimples" on the surface of the pad, can be used with all of
Lake Country's European, engineered foams. While developed for the new
super-hard, scratch-resistant clear coats, CCS pads can also be used on
conventional paints and clear coats. These new pads have been tested and
approved at the OEM level and were introduced to the after market at
Automechanika in Frankfort, Germany, in September of 2006 and at the
International Autobody Congress & Exposition,(NACE), Las Vegas, NV. in
November of 2006.
These new, CCS Pads are in
very tight supply due to strong, worldwide OEM demand. Classic Motoring Accessories
is very proud to have been chosen by Lake Country Manufacturing as the initial domestic supplier of CCS Technology pads for the enthusiast, U.S.
market.
What is CCS Technology?
The newer, harder,
scratch-resistant clear coats require longer polishing times to remove swirls,
spots and defects. The longer you polish with conventional foam pads, the less
effective they become because polish migrates below the working surface of the
pad. The pad "dries out."
| CCS Technology solves this problem using
strategic patterns of partially closed foam cells. These cells slow the rate of
polish absorption, gradually releasing polish as needed by the operator. CCS
Pockets reduce surface tension, prevent pad skipping and allow the operator to
run the pad flat on the working surface. |

Professional results, even if
you're a beginner!
|
|
CCS Pads feature two, additional, design innovations. First, they continue
to incorporate the latest, Constant Pressure™ technology.
Constant pressure may not be good for people but it's great for polishing pads
where you want a uniform and constant pressure on the surface being polished.
Professionals have learned through experience to keep their machines parallel to
the surface being polished. Tilting the machine in any direction can
result in an uneven and excessive pressure being transferred to the painted
surface. |

|
|
Blue "Constant
Pressure" foam backing
absorbs unwanted polishing motions. |
This new, patented, Constant Pressure technology uses a layer of
engineered, instant rebound foam between the pad and the backing plate to absorb
off-axis movements while keeping the pressure of the pad on the surface
constant. |
|
The other patented, innovation incorporated in
CCS Pads are a curved outer edge. The curvature on the outer edge of the pad
allows easy transitions over seams and inclines.
Standard CCS pads are
flat-cut. We pay extra to have the top edge rounded over because it
prevents pads from snagging while polishing seams and edges.
|
 |
|
Curved outer edge
allows easy
transition over seams. |
|
We also pay attention to the back of the
pad. Standard CCS pads run the Hook and Backing material to the edge of the
pad. This material is very course and can cause scratching if it hits the
paint while working in tight spaces or around mirrors and wings. We cut the
Velcro brand fastening material back 1/4 inch from the edge and 1/8 inch
into he pad. This allows you
to work right against corners, mirrors, wings and complex angles without
fear of scratching the paintwork. |
|
|
|
|
Standard CCS pads run
the course
backing to the edge of the pad.
|
We have the pad and
Velcro® edge cut back 1/4" and 1/8" deep to prevent scratching
your paintwork.
|
|
Whether you're a novice or a
seasoned professional, the advanced features of our CCS pads will yield consistently excellent results.
|
|
Here's a guide to help you
select the correct pad for your needs:
Note: We also
offer three, specially priced, 6.5
inch, CCS Technology, Pad Kits that cover a variety of detailing
situations.
|
|
Yellow CCS Compounding Pad - More aggressive
cutting action than the white pad. Use this pad to compound older vehicles with
a dull, chalky or neglected finish.
Use this pad with caution. Compounding can
dull the surface (called compounding haze) which will require additional finish
polishing to remove.
Use this Hi-Gloss Yellow
Compounding Pad with Menzerna Intensive Polish to remove swirls or paint
defects that do not come out with the white pad. |
 |
|
NOTE: The yellow foam used in this pad
is courser than the yellow foam used in our 6-1/2 inch, OEM-Style, 7/8 inch
thick pads. OEM-Style yellow pads use a softer foam for use on fresh paint.
The Yellow, CCS, Compounding Pads listed above are for use on fully cured
paints. All of the other colors of foam listed below are the same foams as
used in our OEM-Style Pads. Only the yellow foam is different. |
|
Orange CCS Power Pad - When used with the proper polishing compounds,
this orange pad removes 2000 grit sanding traces, swirls and paint defects
with minimal or no surface dullness. This pad creates so little haze that
you can often go from compounding right to finishing without the
intermediate polishing steps. Where polishing is still required (often on
black and red cars), it can be accomplished in a fraction of the time it
would take with standard pads. Use this pad and polishing compound to
remove swirls, water spots, and fine scratches. |

|
|
White CCS Polishing Pad - The most often used
pad. This pad has a mild cutting (cleaning) action and should be used to apply
light compounds, polishes and one-step, cleaner/waxes. Use this Hi-Gloss
White, CCS Polishing Pad with BLACKFIRE
Gloss Enhancing Polish or Menzerna Final Polish II to maximize surface gloss. This pad also
works for applying one-step, polish/sealants like
Autoglym Super
Resin Polish. |

|
|
Green CCS German Polishing Pad - This green pad is designed for
applying a final or finishing polish to remove light swirls, paint defects
and for gloss restoration. This pad is also recommended for applying
one-step, cleaner/sealants like Klasse
All-In-One and Menzerna
One-step, Acrylic Jacket. It is a high strength foam with
60 pores per sq. inch yet is softer and more forgiving than our regular
foams. It is designed to be used with an orbital polisher (like the Porter
Cable 7424) but can be used with a circular polisher if the speed is kept
around 1000 rpm. |

|
|
Black CCS Glazing/Finessing Pad - This pad has
no cutting or cleaning action. It should be used to apply a glaze or a finessing
polish.
Use this Hi-Gloss
Black Glazing Pad to apply
Menzerna Finishing
Touch Glaze, 3M Imperial Hand
Glaze, and Meguiar's No. 7 Show Car
Glaze. You can
also use this pad to apply Meguiar's No. 3 Machine Polish
and 3M Finesse-It II
Machine Polish. |

|
|
Red CCS Finishing Pad - Like the grey
pad, this red pad has no cutting or cleaning action. This new, incredibly fine,
European foam was introduced in 2004 for applying the final liquid wax or paint
sealant. While made for the OEM market and demanding enthusiast, this
easy-to-use, Hi-Gloss Red Finishing Pad glides over the surface creating
a mirror-like shine.
|

|
|
Gold Finishing Pad - This custom, hybrid
foam is the world's softest finishing foam. The actual foam is a German
formula but made in the USA exclusively for Lake Country Mfg. These Gold,
Concours Finishing Pads are engineered for applying the final wax or
sealant to create the absolute best shine. This gold foam is 40% softer
than the red making it the best pad for applying your finishing wax or
sealant. |

|
| Proper
Cleaning - Wash foam pads in a bucket of car wash, soapy water (or use Snappy
Clean Pad Cleaner), rinse thoroughly, hand
squeeze out excess water (on a flat surface) and allow to air dry. Do not clean
pads or soak pads in dishwashing soap (Dawn) or laundry
detergents. Do not machine wash or machine dry. Do not wring dry.
|
|
Do not use the same pad for
applying different products. If applying a polish and a cleaner/wax, use one pad
to apply the polish and a separate pad to apply the cleaner/wax.
Note:
Polishing pads can "cake-up" with residues reducing their
effectiveness. If you don't want to stop in the middle of polishing to clean
pads, plan on using 2 or 3 pads to polish the average car. Don't let polish
residues dry in the pad. When you remove a dirty pad from your machine,
immediately place it in a bucket of soapy (car wash shampoo) water or use a pad
cleaner such as Snappy Clean Pad Cleaning Powder.
|
|
Hook and Loop Back-Up Plate - All of our pads
have a VELCRO® brand loop backing that require your machine be fitted with a 5 or 6
inch, hook and loop Backing Plate. This plate may or may not have
come with your polisher. If you require a backing plate, this 6 Inch Flexible
Backing Plate is our favorite. It's a professional quality plate that
provides maximum grip on any of our 6-1/2 or 7-1/2 inch pads. The 5/16-24
threaded shaft fits the Porter Cable 7424, 7336 and most other dual-action
polishers. |
